Understanding Your Credit Report -- The Basics

More and more people are becoming aware of their credit report, and how it affects them in their daily lives. As they apply for a home loan, credit card, or line of credit, they realize that credit scores can make a huge difference in the amount of interest they will pay. Some have even realized to their chagrin that past indiscretions and problems can come back to haunt them. Being turned down for a loan can be very painful and embarrassing.

If you are ready for an intelligent look into your credit situation, then you may want to take a long look at your own credit report. When you have acquired a transcript of your credit report, it is plainly in your interest to understand how to interpret it. There are loads of numbers and distinct accounts on one piece of paper, and you should strive to understand what you are looking at, and what it all means.

Three major credit-reporting agencies

There are three pre-eminent credit-reporting agencies that are going to play a big role in your credit life. The "Big Three" are Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. You should copy a transcript of your credit report from these three companies, at the very least, every 12 months. You can find out additional information about these companies online and they will guide you how to acquire a no cost credit report.

The large credit scoring companies have fee-based websites, where you can look at your credit score whenever you'd like, see how your credit score has changed over time, and see any inquiries that have happened. You can even sign up for alerts that will let you know if anything has changed with your credit score. This can be a big advantage if you are trying to increase your credit score to get better interest rates.

What is in these reports?

All credit reports have similar information in them. They will have your identifying information, such as residence address, social security number drivers licence number and other items. Each credit company will have payment history, late payment information and balance owed. There will be information from the public record if any exists. There will also be any inquiries from credit companies in the last months.

The three major credit agencies' reports will have distinct information in them. This is because each company has different credit companies that subscribe to them, and that is how they get their information. The credit card companies, mortgage companies, and banks all send credit information on each creditor on a monthly basis. The agencies then tabulate all the credit information they receive about you, and come up with a new credit score.

In addition to the Big Three, a company called Fair Issacs also keeps credit score information for it's customers. Fair Issacs is considered the "Father of Credit Scoring," since they were the first to devise the credit score as a way to make lenders' jobs easier.

The major parts of a credit report

A credit report is separated into four sections, identifying information, credit history, public records, and inquiries.

Identifying information

Your identifying information is the section that identifies who you are. There are maybe hundreds of people in the United States having an identical name (can you imagine how many John Smith's there are?), but all people has a discrete social security number. The report should also confirm your driver's license number, last known address, and unique phone number.

Credit history

The second section of your credit report is your credit history. Each individual's account will have the name of the creditor and the creditor's account number. You will want to make certain that these are authentic accounts that you maintain now or had at one period. If they are incorrect, you will be shown a way to contest them.

Public records

This is the section that obtains any report about your past criminal record. This will also contain any arrests or bad judgments that have been made against you. This is a section that is better off empty for obvious reasons.

The inquiries

The last part to a credit report is the inquiries. This is anyone who has seen a transcript of your credit report. Anytime that you apply for a loan, credit card or line of credit, some one can see your report and they will pull an inquiry report. This is a very complete report. It is not a good practice to show a lot of inquiries on your credit report.

Changing your credit report

If there is any part of your report that is in question, you will have a way to dispute or correct it. The dispute will be reviewed and the questionable information may be taken off your credit report. If it cannot be taken off of the report, you should have a way to add your own explanation of the situation to the report. This could help a potential lender undertstand the situation more fully.

I hope that this article has given you a basic understanding of what is in your credit report, and what you should look for when reading your credit report. To find the credit agencies, do an online search for their websites.

Glimpses of Esoteric Christianity Part 2

He who attunes with the harmony of the Cosmos, with Tao, with the Divine I AM, feeds and expands the flame--like the Colombes tending the sacred fire in Vesta's temple--which results in a greater manifestation of God, the Shekinah, in man's expression in the world of Malkuth--Assiah, God's footstool. Glorified by the divinity of his God-presence, man manifests his full divine potential with the fruits of the Tree of Life in full development with the aspects of will/power, love/wisdom, intelligence/activity in equilibrium and in total unfoldment.

Heaven, or the Kingdom of God, is an inner state, a condition within the consciousness where peace, harmony, bliss, love, compassion, wisdom, and power rules supreme. Divine union with the source of our being effects the transcendence of man's awareness and transports him into the corona of the greater Flame, into the kingdom of Life. This is the unio mystica and the ascension sought by Christian mystics and saints ever since the resurrection of the Master Jesus.

The Essenes

There was a pre-Christian sect called "the Essenes" that was influential in the moulding of Christianity, and it behooves us to look at them briefly.

According to tradition, the Essenes are said to have originated centuries before the advent of the embodiment of Love and Purity, represented by Jesus and John--the Harbinger. This unique segment of the Great White Brotherhood is said to have originated in Egypt, and is related with the Theraputae, a sect that specialized in healing, to be found among the nations surrounding the Mediterranean. Some esoteric historians trace their roots to the school of prophets established by Samuel--the Prophet, who anointed Saul as King of Israel. The brethren of this mysterious sect were sometimes referred to as "the Mysterious Ones," "the Secret Ones," and "the Silent Ones," on account of their mystical practices, disciplines, behaviour, and the expression and habits of their normal secular life. A community of Essenes once resided along the shores of Lake Moeris, in Egypt. Some of the members were celibates, those that married probably practiced specific spiritual exercises that permitted lofty souls to incarnate. Like the Christ initiate, the Essenes abhorred animal-sacrifices. It is probable that the former adopted this attitude from the latter. The Essenes had no slaves nor servants, and lived communally, sharing worldly goods; and cooperating harmoniously with every venture that they undertook. They were healers, and made much use of herbs, minerals, the "laying of hands," and invocation of the healing angels. Members of the community were considered holy and pious by outsiders of their group.

Nothing is mentioned concerning the Essenes in the New Testament except for a hint or two regarding the mysterious men in white who often appeared to the disciples of the Nazarene Master to offer words of advise. The white woolen robes that they wore, which suggests pre-Islamic Sufism, apparently signifies their status symbol as higher degree members. From the dietary aspect of their way of life, the Essenes were known to be vegetarians; they are also believed to be "God-eaters," a term indicating the ability to nourish the physical body with the life-giving qualities to be found in the pranic ethers. This and the harmonious attunement with other Cosmic forces may account for their unusually long life span ranging from a hundred to a hundred and twenty years.

Roman historians such as Pliny, referred to the Essenes in their writings in a somewhat sketchy manner, due to the private and isolated lives that the Essenes led. The absence of any concrete references to the Essenes in the Bible is a fact worth considering. While the other influential sects upon Judaic's social milieu were mentioned, such as, the Sadducees and the Nazarites, the compilers and writers of the gospels for some reason thought it necessary to leave the Essenes out of their texts; or could it be that references regarding their existence and activities were deliberately expunged from the gospels for political reasons by Church Fathers? It is noteworthy that while Jesus criticized some of the other sects for their iniquities, he did not attack or condemn the Essenes. Was there a good reason for this? Certainly he must have known about them, being a son or initiate of the Mysteries.

It is believed by some esotericists that the parents of Jesus, Joseph and Mary, were Essenes. Jesus himself is said to have had his early spiritual training among the brotherhood. What Jesus taught in later years, in his ministry, resembled the precepts, doctrines, practices, and disciplines taught by the Essenes, such as the practice of baptism; invocation of higher forces and intelligences; the blessing of meals; the practice of prophecy and healing; teachings concerning the Kingdom of God; and angelology, or the science of energy-forces of Nature personified by those beings.

The Essenes appeared suddenly upon the world scene, and vanished with hardly a trace of their existence. It is often inquired by scholars regarding the purpose of the brotherhood's establishment. It is conjectured by some, and supported by tradition, that the prime purpose of the institution of the Essene community was the preparation for the coming of the Messiah and his ministry here on Earth. When the Master Jesus disappeared from public view, so did the Essenes shortly after. Whether they chose to disband, or to operate in a clandestine manner, it is believed that a good deal of their doctrines found their way to other esoteric schools in later centuries such as Masonry, the Rosicrucian Brotherhood, the Knights Templar, and many others. Extensive manuscripts discovered in a cave at the Wadi Qumran along the shores of the Dead Sea in the latter half of this century is expected to shed more light on the Essene belief and lifestyle when the manuscripts are wholly made public. Nowadays there is a revival of the Essenes and that which may be regarded as Essenic thought among spiritual occultists.

The Esoteric Life of Jesus

Much of the hidden esoteric life of Jesus is unknown to followers of Orthodox Christianity. From their point of view, all important events that occurred in Jesus' life were recorded in the canonical gospels and further inquiry into the matter is undesirable and of no importance; however, several questions are raised by scholars, the most notable are the lack of information of Jesus' spiritual, mystical and secular training; and the non-chronicling of the activities of Jesus between the time of his debate with the Doctors of the Law in the Temple at age twelve and his sudden appearance at the River Jordon awaiting to be baptized by John in the prime of his manhood. What occurred in the interim? Though exoteric Christianity is silent on the subject, the esoteric side with its psychic investigations sheds some light upon the subject. One may well ask the validity of the information regarding the esoteric side of Jesus' life--we can only suggest that it is as much valid as the canonical gospels--and there is more to this statement of ours than what a cursory apprehension can tell.

Much of what we are about to relate is derived from the book "The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus," a manuscript scribed from what was witnessed in the akashic records by Levi, an American pastor of the 19th century. The events and account of Jesus' life mention therein are supported by the investigations of other psychics and scholars. We will summarize the contents below and correlate them with other information:

Born to parents who were Essenes, Jesus was a normal child in every way except for being exceptionally bright and precocious. The three magi who visited the newly-born babe, are believed by students of esotericism to be the past incarnations of spiritual Masters familiar to Theosophists: El Morya, Kuthumi, and Dwal Kul. The Star of Bethlehem, witnessed by the magi, was, esoterically speaking, the highly developed causal body of the Initiate Jesus. The Star has a higher significance; however. A poet once wrote about the "trailing clouds of glory" that follows the birth of every child. The cloud that trailed behind the babe destined to be the Christ was exceptionally radiant. Incidentally, there was a prophecy among the magi that Zarathustra, or Zoroaster, declared to his followers that he would return again with his angels to lead them. Apparently, it would seem that the magi believed Jesus to be the reincarnated Zoroaster.

A holy figure keeps appearing in the pre-natal and early life of Jesus. He is known among the parents of Jesus and John--the Harbinger, as "Gabriel." Judging from the interest that the Essenes had in the child Jesus and the characteristical nature of their higher ranking members, it is probable that Gabriel was one of their holy brethren who was an adept in the art of bilocation, or psychic projection. One of their members could also have been overshadowed by this lofty archangel. No matter how Gabriel manifested himself, he certainly was instrumental in conveying important matters and protecting the Holy Family from the attacks of negative forces.

Later, after receiving the news of a babe having been born and destined to be "King of Israel," Herod ordered his soldiers to massacre every child in the kingdom. Joseph and Mary, the parents of Jesus, fled to Egypt taking the promised child with them. Thus far, the events mentioned are in accord with the canonical gospels; however, the accounts of Luke, Mark, Matthew and John fails to relate further developments which were essential to the spiritual upbringing of Jesus.

In Zoan, Egypt, Mary and her cousin were trained in the workings of Cosmic Law and were taught the spiritual doctrines by the Masters of the Egyptian Brotherhood. These various teachings were given to them to be later passed on to Jesus and his forerunner, John--the Harbinger, at the appropriate time. After a few years of educational activities, word was given to the mothers to return to Israel.

As a child, Jesus loved to read, and he enjoyed perusing the holy scriptures of the world such as the Avesta and the Vedas. He especially loved the Psalms of David, and committed most of the things he read to memory.

The Embodiment of Love revealed his nature for the first time in the narrative by subsequent events. A birthday feast was given by the grandparents of Jesus in his honour. When requested by the host as to the gift desired by Jesus, the child pleaded on behalf of the starving children to be found in the area. Permission was granted for the child to invite the famished ones to join the feast, and this filled the heart of the young Jesus with joy.

Even at an early age Jesus criticized animal-sacrifices practiced by the Jewish priesthood. Hillel, the head of the Sanhedrin, was unable to offer any solace to the grieving heart of Jesus regarding the blood-ceremony when the lad sought his assistance. Hillel, humbled by the sincerity and wisdom of Jesus offered to train the child concerning the exoteric law of the Jews. The early esoteric training of Jesus was with the Essene Brotherhood.

Once he complained to his mother of the narrow-mindedness of the Jews and voiced his desire to meet his "other brothers" in other nations to study of their ways. This opportunity came quickly when an Indian Raja visited the land, invited and offered to sponsor Jesus' mystico-religious education in India.

It would be proper at this time to digress for a moment to point out the various ways with which the mystical and spiritual training of Jesus were effected. The following were his main modes of study and the acquisition of knowledge:

1) Attunement with the Cosmic Mind, with God's Omniscience.

2) Recollection of knowledge and training from former life-times.

3) Personal observation of people, their beliefs, and way of life.

4) Personal research and study of ancient, secret manuscripts.

5) Tutorship under various Masters of Wisdom.

Back to our summary: In India, Jesus taught and studied; it was in India that he learnt the mystic art of healing. Here, among the Arya-Hindus, he made friends, and he made enemies. He spoke against the caste system which angered the Brahmins. The situation became so perilous that he was advised by a friend to flee. Circumstances being as it was, the young avatara decided to visit Nepal to carry on his ministry there. Prior to Jesus' leave from India, he received news of his father's death and wrote to his mother to console her. In Nepal he discovered from an Indian Master the existence of secret teachings in Tibet. He decided to read the texts himself and commenced his journey to the monastery in Tibet where they were kept. In the land of Lamaism, he is received warmly by Meng-Tse, a Chinese sage, who assisted him with his spiritual researches.

Certain manuscripts are said to have existed in one of the monasteries concerning Jesus' sojourn in India and Tibet. Among the witnesses said to have seen or known about these manuscripts was the famous Russian painter, Nicholas Roerich.

After a brief stay in Tibet, the young avatara headed for Nazareth, his homeland, stopping in Persia and Assyria. In Persia he was received by the magi that visited him in Bethlehem when he was just a babe. Together, with several others, he meditated in silence upon the spiritual needs of mankind. His other activities in Persia, and later Assyria, included healing and preaching. Among the Persians he instructed the "few" a meditational process of mystical development. In Babylon, Assyria, he visited some ruins in the company of Ashbina, a mystic Master of the Land. Shortly after, he is homeward bound. Following his reunion with mother, family, and friends, he sets on the trail again, this time for Greece and Egypt.

It was in Egypt that he applied for initiation into the Mysteries of the Egyptian branch of the Great White Brotherhood--like his western predecessors before him--Plato and Pythagoras. After passing several tests with honors, the hierophants of the Brotherhood initiates the Nazarene into the deepest secrets of Man, Nature, and God. This culminates in his graduation with the title "Christ."

Before leaving for Nazareth, the crowned Jesus, with an important mission entrusted to him by the Karmic Lords and Cosmic decrees, is blessed by the Seven Sages of that particular world-period, and convened to discuss upon the spiritual requirements of man living in the new dispensation of the Piscean Age. The Seven Sages, making out a "Council of Seven," were representatives of the exoteric rays that radiates from the Great Central Sun. They are somewhat related to the "Seven Chohans of the Rays," known in New Age spirituality.

It is believed by mystics that the mission of Jesus consisted of 7 goals:

1) To instruct the masses concerning the immortality of the Soul and a salvation from physical bondage by personal effort.

2) To embody and replace the imagery of wrath surrounding God with that of Love.

3) To demonstrate the birth and perfection of the Christ within, followed by the spiritualization of the physical form.

4) To anchor a certain spiritual force into the physical plane and planet.

5) To live out a parable of the Soul.

6) To fulfill the various prophecies concerning the Messiah in the Holy Scriptures.

7 To demonstrate the divine potentiality, the occult talents and powers of Man.

Through exoteric and esoteric sources, we know that the Nazarene Master fulfilled his spiritual mission successfully. Unfortunately, throughout the centuries the Church had misrepresented and misinterpreted the teachings of the Avatar. The scriptures, the gospels, were altered by the Councils of Nicea and Trent for political and personal purposes. Wine, when poisoned, is undrinkable whether in new skins or old.

The nature of blessings is interesting enough to comment: All blessings are derived from a spiritual source. It is God that blesses through man. Man can only be the tool with which God's blessings and grace flows. Love is the principle that prompts the heart of man to bestow a blessing; and Love, as all mystics are aware, is an aspect of the triune nature of God. Blessings cannot be revoked, as illustrated in the narrative of Isaac and his sons, Esau and Jacob, for the simple reason that the divine intelligence does not create errors. Love functions impersonally according to Law--to the Law of Karma, the Law of Grace, the Law of Giving and Forgiving. It is a joy to bless rather than to curse. The latter is an egoistic expression, the former a divine flow. Power flows through the hands--whether the operator is conscious of it or not--thus, the hands in its many mudras, or mystic gestures, are often used to implement the blessings upon another. When blessing the Nazarene, the seven Masters placed their hands, the tools of their will, upon the crown chakra of Jesus. As in many rites in Esoteric Christianity, especially in transmitting a divine influence upon another, invocation is often made upon God or the angelic hierarchy.

Divine power through the hands, divine words uttered from the purified throat chakra, and divine love flowing from the radiant anahata chakra, all of which unify in one tremendous force that uplifts the consciousness of the recipient of the blessing. It is man's prerogative and responsibility to bless all lesser life, for the greater life has blessed man with individuality, self-consciousness, and potential immortality; however, blessings should be given wisely and discriminately, in accordance with the need of the individual. It is not simply the recipient that is blessed by the grace of God, by the grace of the giver--the instrument of God's blessings is likewise graced by the spiritual transmission. Eventhough the blessings that we are referring to here is of a psycho-spiritual nature, it could even take on a material form. The effects of blessings are creative, constructive, curative; curses are inherently destructive--even to the one cursing. Our modern society seems to have lost the urge and instinct to bless. In contrast, curses have become a pseudo art-form, a warped-sense of pleasure to those destroying the nobility of man's fine sensitivity to Nature's manifold expressions. The Kali-Yuga is a pot under extreme heat and pressure. All dross eventually and inevitably rises to the surface at the personal and global level to be dealt with by Man; for Man is the originator of most of the dark effluvia, the misqualified energies that each Divine Fragment of God should transmute and purify.

After the appearance of Jesus at the River Jordon to be baptized by John--the Harbinger, the narrative follows along similar lines to the canonical gospels. It is unnecessary to recapitulate this, we will instead discuss some of the arcane doctrines of Christian esotericism.

Esoteric Doctrines

Throughout the centuries following the ascension of the Nazarene, various esoteric schools were established to perpetuate the secret teachings of Jesus, under the decree of the Great White brotherhood. Most of them operated in a clandestine manner for fear of being persecuted by Church and State. In an Age of superstition, fear and ignorance, it was only appropriate for these Mystery Schools to guard the treasures of the Spirit for the elect, the "chosen few." Not casting pearls before swine was an oath deeply held by the brethren of mystical circles. Cathars, Rosicrucians, Templars, Alchemists, Christian Qabalists, Gnostics, and Martinists, were just some of the brotherhoods and traditions that taught the inner meaning and mystical sense of the Holy Scriptures and the esotericism of religion. The doctrines and precepts of these prestigious Orders had teachings in common, with slight variations as to detail and methods with which the spiritual goal, the "Holy Grail" may be attained : The quest for the Chalice in the Grail stories required a warrior's will, discipline, and determination; the purity of a maiden capable of enchanting a unicorn; and the simple faith of a child in attunement with Nature--all of these were embodied by Sir Galahad, the only knight successful enough to attain the Chalice in the Grail Mysteries without any problems. At this time we wish to discuss briefly upon the following esoteric topics:

1) Man's Fall

2) Reincarnation

3) Karma

4) Light

5) Man's Divinity

6) Perfection

7) Salvation

8) The Esoteric Concept of God

Keeping Your Baby Safe

Nobody wants to see a newborn baby get injured. Regardless of how careful and watchful you are, there is always room to take extra precautions to help keep your baby from getting hurt.

Below are 10 helpful tips to keep your baby safe:

1. Dont leave your baby alone with any pet, regardless of how small or harmless the animal may be.

2. Always keep an eye on your baby when you are shopping, out and about, going for a walk, or even at the playground. Kidnappers see strollers as a target from which to snatch your baby.

3. Never shake your baby. Dont even playfully throw the baby up in the air.

4. If you are giving your baby a bath in a large tub, be sure to put a towel or rubber mat at the bottom of the to keep them from slipping.

5. Avoid any toys, clothes, or household objects that have strings on them, and keeping phone cords out of reach. Babies have a tendency to get them wrapped around their neck and accidentally choke.

6. Always put your baby in a car seat when driving. It is extremely easy for your baby to get injured if you get into an accident, so be sure to pay attention to the road. Avoid talking on a cell phone, eating, or any other activity that could distract from your driving.

7. Keep your baby away from open if you arent around to watch. In fact, its wise to keep your baby from all open windows - ever.

8. Never leave your baby alone in a room with a child under the age of six. Children in this age range tend to play roughly with babies almost as if they were dolls.

9. If a baby sitter watches over your baby, be sure that they have been trained in infant safety and CPR, are at least 16 years or older, and have solid references.

10. If you are changing your babys diaper on a changing table, it is essential to never turn your back -- even for a split second. In a heartbeat babies can roll over and fall off the table.

Nothing matters more than your childs safety. Dont take it for granted. Always be vigilant in looking after your babys safety.

Driving License Information

Driving license in the United States not only gives you rights and permissions to drive motor vehicle but also acts as personal identity card like the Social Security Number. It can be used as a form of identification for several purposes like opening bank accounts, traveling within the country, and as proof of legal age to buy alcohol and tobacco.

US federal government does not issue national driver licenses. All the 50 US states issue driving licenses separately and they can be used anywhere in America, Canada, and even abroad in certain countries. Every state has its own requirements and application procedures for driving license to the citizens as well as immigrants.

However, in all states you have to appear in a written test, road test and vision test. Some of the states allow foreign license as a proof of one's ability to operate a motor vehicle, thus if you have one they may not ask you to give a road test again. There are also different classes of licenses depending on the type of vehicle you will drive.

If you have not taken the US citizenship, you have to show the proof of your Immigration status for applying for a driving license from any state. This was added by the federal government after 9/11 as an extra security measures when obtaining a driving license. Driver licenses that do not meet these requirements are not accepted as legal identification to get entry into a federal building or to board an airplane in the country.

There is a US government website (www.dmv.org) that provides information on driving license. The site has all the details how you can apply, what are the procedures and requirements for a driving license. It has a map of the US and by clicking on the state where you want to apply you can get the information and the procedures.

If you are planning to go to the US, besides American visa and driving license there are many things you should know about. Credit Card Lingo

Knowing Whats Out There And What To Choose

The World of finance can be a tricky game for both the seasoned veteran and the novice borrower. Banks can by accident or design make even the most simple information seem complicated and through this unwittingly (or not) induce their customers to go for products that might not be best suited to their needs.

Credit, charge, ATM and debit cards are not all alike. Although you might think that they are basically the same thing a way of making payment for purchases or means of getting cash they are actually quite different. So as to use these cards wisely, you should know what each one is and how it differs from the others. Heres some information to help you choose wisely.

Credit Cards

Credit cards can be a great way of paying for a purchase. They are easy to apply for, easy to use, and flexible in their repayment options. However, if you carry a balance, credit cards can be like very expensive loans.

A credit card works like this: the credit card company supplies you with a card; you use that card to pay for items and services up to a certain total amount -- your credit limit. The store or service provider then collects what you owe from the card issuer, whom you repay. You're then allowed to pay off as much or almost as little as you like off the balance each month, so long as you pay a minimum amount each time (usually 2.5 per cent).

On the outstanding balance youre charged interest (which can be as high as 25% or more each year) at the end of each monthly period, unless you pay the full balance each time your bill arrives.

Credit cards are immensely profitable for issuers for a variety of reasons. The high rate of interest yields issuing banks and companies vast profits in some cases the bulk of an institutions earnings. In addition to the interest, many companies charge an annual membership fee for a credit card, as well as a plethora of other charges, including late fees, over-the-limit fees and other miscellaneous charges. Companies also profit by charging stores a fee each time a customer uses a credit card in their establishment.

There are three different types of credit card available:

Unsecured Credit Cards

These cards are commonly made available to those with good credit history and credit score. These cards require no bank deposit amounts to secure and usually have no annual fees and low rate of interest.

Higher Risk Credit Cards

These cards are usually given to people who have a lower paying job, and/or poor credit history and credit score. Often these cards charge an activation fee, and also usually charge an annual fee of up to $80.

Secured Credit Cards

These cards are given to people who have a lower paying job, and/or a very poor credit history and credit score. Often these cards require a deposit to be made to the lender, sometimes as much as near or equal to the amount of credit available on the card. If the borrower can prove their credit worthiness over time, that credit limit is then upped. These cards also attract a high annual fee of up to $100 and charge high rates of interest.

Charge Cards

Charge cards (also known as travel and entertainment cards) are slightly from credit cards. The most famous charge cards, such as American Express and Diners Club, have an unlimited credit limit. Normally you can charge as much as you like, but you are required to pay off your balance in full when your bill arrives.

Theres one exception to this: If you charge air fare, cruise fees or hotel charges booked through a travel agent on an American Express card, you have an option to pay off your balance over 36 months. Theres a sting in the tail, however: you'll be charged around 20 per cent interest and will have to make minimum monthly payments of $20.

The way charge card companies like American Express make their profits is by charging very high annual fees up to $100 and by hitting merchants with relatively high charges each time a customer pays using their card.

If you don't pay your charge card bill in full (unless the charges are travel expenses on an American Express card), you'll get a one-month period of grace, when no interest is charged. Beyond that, however, you'll be charged interest, which weighs in at about 18 per cent. After about three months, if your account is still not settled, your account will be closed and your bill sent to the collections department.

Cash Advances

Some people use their credit or charge cards to obtain cash advances. This can be an expensive way of accessing cash. Most banks charge a transaction fee that can be as much as 4% for taking a cash advance. Interest is also charged from the date the cash advance is posted, even if its paid back in full when your bill arrives. Moreover, the interest rate is usually higher on cash advances than on ordinary credit card charges.

ATM & Debit Cards

ATM and debit cards offer most of the same functions as credit and charge cards, but the crucial difference is that the money comes out of your bank account straight away. If you dont have the money, you cant buy the product.

For some people this is a preferable option: they like to keep track of their outgoings, to keep tabs on what theyve spent, to avoid any sort of debt no matter how brief.

There are disadvantages to using debit cards. It doesnt give you the option of up to a month to settle your statement. You also don't have the right to withhold payment with a debit card (the money is immediately removed from the account) in the event of a dispute with the merchant over the goods or services paid for. Some banks and merchants also charge transaction fees for the use of debit cards.

A Simple Act of Forgiveness

Four Amish girls were buried on a hill in Nickel Mine, Pennsylvania, this morning. Charles Carl Roberts IV, the shooter who invaded their schoolhouse, took their lives and shattered their community's private world, took his own life as well. Roberts' wife and three children live nearby. Two other acts of school violence, one in Colorado, one in Wisconsin, occurred only a few days before Roberts' rampage on his neighbors. Trying to understand what is happening in our country, and why, is a confusing struggle of faith and fear.

But the Amish community has startled our nation into subdued silence with its simple offering of forgiveness to Roberts' family and the sincere hope that they stay because they will also be offered friendship and continued support. As an article posted on AOL;s news service pointed out, "In just about any other community, a deadly school shooting would have brought demands from civic leaders for tighter gun laws and other security, and the victims' loved ones would have lashed out at the gunman's family or threatened to sue."

But that's not the Amish way.

Gertrude Huntington, a Michigan researcher who has written a book about Amish children, has said of the impact of the tragic loss of these children, "The hurt is great. But they don't balance the hurt with hate." Before Roberts' body had been removed from the scene, members of the Amish community began gathering outside the schoolhouse where the tragedy took place. It was that night that neighbors came to the Roberts family home to offer their forgiveness for what had happened that day. On the CBS Evening News, one young Amish man simply said, "We must forgive or Jesus won't forgive us."

We are not accustomed to forgiveness in our culture. We are uncomfortable with the vulnerability it implies, the righteous anger it steals from us. Most of us know The Lord's Prayer by heart - Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Forgiveness, asked for and offered, has no boundaries, no limitations, no timeline and no prerequisites. Forgiveness simply is what we must do if we expect forgiveness in return, from each other and from God. Luke's gospel also quotes Jesus as saying, "Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven; give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back (Luke 6:37-38)."

It will be said of this tragedy, as history has recorded many times before about other, equally tragic circumstances, that it is impossible to forgive such horrible acts against innocent people. And yet, the Amish of Pennsylvania have already proven that blanket statement false. While their lifestyle is quite different than our own, we share a common humanity that cannot be denied, even by our own fear to consider embodying this straightforward, honest faith we have witnessed this week. For this is our faith as well, and even though we have laid claim to technological advances and material wealth unprecedented, even in our own United States, we need to step back and see where we have lost touch with its most basic tenet. Forgiveness has never been about what has been done to us, but about what we can offer now.

Healthy Halloween!

Healthy Halloween! These two words dont traditionally go together. Boo! Trick or Treat! Those are the usual words we'll be hearing on Halloween, as our little witches, superheroes, and vampires knock on the neighbors doors for treats. Treats are a part of the tradition, but for many parents the most frightening thing about Halloween is how to deal with the avalanche of candy that comes into the home on Halloween.

Here are some simple strategies to use before and after trick-or-treating.

- Make sure children eat a meal or snack before going trick-or-treating so they wont be tempted to dig into their bag of goodies before they get home.

- When children get home, check the treats and keep only the treats that are in their original wrappers.

- Eat trick-or-treat candy over several days as a substitute for dessert or a few pieces along with a healthy snack.

- Keep holiday candy until the next holiday, such as Thanksgiving.

- Ration the amount of Halloween candy a child eats at one time.

- Place a small amount of candy in a plastic bag for a special treat.

- Freeze the chocolate bars to save them for later. Frozen chocolate takes longer to eat, so children can't eat them so quickly.

- Trade candy bars or certain amount of candy for small trinkets, Halloween toys and novelties, Barrettes, hair bows, ribbons, jewelry, Action figures, or for a movie or video.

- Make an art project with your Halloween candy. Paint sturdy paper plate and use glue and leftover candy to decorate the plate. This makes a great art piece. Visit www.kidssoup.com for more ideas.

- For small children - Leave it for the Great Jack-O 'Lantern. Tell a story of the Great Jack-O 'Lantern and pour all the excess and unwanted candy in a special Jack-O 'Lantern and leave it outside for the Great Jack-O 'Lantern to take and share with all the poor children that didn't get candy on Halloween.

What has been a nutritional and dental nightmare can, with a little creativity and planning, remain one of the favorite celebrations of children and parents alike. Have a Healthy Happy Halloween! Ill trade you a tootsie roll for a periwinkle barrette.

Things We Said We Would Never Say

I bet you know where this one is going!!! We spend so much of our teenage years and twenties (and depending upon just how challenging our childhoods were, maybe thirties and forties and beyond) rebelling against what our parents said and did.

While I still may not fully embrace the parenting styles of my mom and dad, I do realize that some things aren't quite as black and white as I thought. For example, I never wanted to be a stay-at-home mom because my model for being a stay-at-home mom watched "Phil Donahue" (do any of you readers even remember that show? Or am I too old?!) and soap operas, and she made me clean the house and fix dinner.

That's not exaggerated much (I still hate to make salads and peel potatoes), but it's not entirely accurate either. Doing yard work just a few weeks ago, I remembered how my mom got up early in the summer to mow the lawn. (We lived in Texas, and it was already 88 degrees at 7:00 a.m. And it didn't stop at 88 degrees - believe me!) So, my mom wasn't as lazy as I had remembered. My perspective was changing a bit.

Same thing with some of the things my parents used to tell me and my brothers. I thought they were rude and mean at the time, and I know I felt demeaned and disrespected when they were directed toward me. Of course, I said I would never say them. Here are a few treasures:

- Shut up
- No (we heard that one all the time!)
- Because I said so
- Nonya (short for "none of your business")

Hmmm. Well, looking at that list now (and this is a cleaned up list, I gotta tell ya), perspective or no, I'm still not going to incorporate everything into my everyday language with my own kids.

"Shut up." This is one I can honestly say that I've never said. In anger, I've slipped and said, "Be quiet," but that's the worst transgression with this particular phrase. There is nothing respectful or nurturing about "shut up." Even in our biggest arguments, my husband and I don't say it to each other. As a matter of fact, I've had to curb my nine-year-old daughter's habit of saying, "Hush!" to her seven-year-old sister. Even that feels too much.

On to "No." My mother said, "No" all the time, and my brothers (who are eight and ten years younger than I) quickly found out that if they hounded my mother enough, she would change her mind (unlucky me - I was a little slow, and I never figured it out!) and would eventually give in. It probably would have been easier to say yes, and then she wouldn't have had to deal with the whining and complaining and badgering, which I know didn't make her happy, and my brothers certainly didn't appreciate being yelled at. (Of course, they were getting what they wanted, so maybe they didn't care if they were being yelled at.) I've tried not to automatically say, "No" to my daughters, although I have to admit that sometimes it takes a mighty conscious effort not to do so. I'm not sure what that is that makes us just automatically think "no" instead of "yes," but I do try to resist.

(However, I'd also like to point out that our goal as parents is not to give in to our child's every wish. There are the easy ones like, "No, Johnny. You can't run into the street." Where it gets hard is when there's no bad reason to say yes other than you Just. Don't. Feel. Like. Going. To. The. Park. For. The. Third. Day. In. A. Row. It's okay to say no in order to nurture ourselves. I guess yes and no are a balancing act like everything else.)

"Because I said so." This is one that I do say, although not often. There are times that it just is because you say it is, and that's that. End of story. I've always tried to be sensitive and give explanations when I could. However, there are just those few times when you don't want to give an explanation (do you really want to explain truthfully why little Sally can't go across the street where the nice old man lives by himself?), or you've hit your question quota for the day (we've actually instituted a twenty-question-a-day quota for our older daughter). As parents, we don't always have to give explanations. We have that power. We just need to make sure we wield it for the powers of good.

Finally, I've always thought that "It's none of your business" sounded abrupt and rude. So, in our house, we say, "It's none of your concern." I know it's just a word change from "business" to "concern," but it makes a difference to me. If I were to say, "It's none of your business" to my daughter, I would feel as if I were shutting her down, almost punishing her for even asking. "It's none of your concern" feels like I'm saying, "I thank you for asking, but we've got it covered."

Maybe in some cases it doesn't have anything to do with the exact words we say, but more with how we feel in saying them. Maybe my children wouldn't care if I said, "It's none of your business," or, "Shut up." Actually, that's not completely true. We've taught our girls that "shut up" is a bad word, and they list it as one of the bad "s" words (along with "stupid"). So, they would notice - and probably be very hurt - if we told them to "shut up."

It's all part of what we have to do as parents (as well as in the other facets of our lives): examine our own experiences on the other end (in this case, that other end being the child), dig in to what we learned (maybe even include how we felt), and combine that with our philosophy and goals as parents. So while I'm happy that I've achieved a somewhat more rounded view of my childhood and how my mom and dad parented, I'm using that view to inform my own parenting.

When we parent from a position of knowledge (I'm doing this because of X,Y,Z) instead of just blindly going in and not understanding why we do what we do or not doing it consistently, then we become more engaging, positive, and nurturing parents.

Because I said so.

Advantages Of Owning A Scooter: If You Like To Shop

Getting around in a store or in a mall for an hour at a time can be difficult if you are not feeling well, or if you are experiencing any type of pain. You can put the pain and the discomfort behind you using a scooter. A scooter gives you the mobility you have been dreaming about so you can shop. From groceries, to holiday shopping, or just personal shopping you can take your scooter along, and enjoy your day out of the house.

Advantages Of Owning A Scooter Are Vast, But Different For Every Person

The advantages of owning a scooter include the ability to be self-dependent. You dont want to wait for your children to take you shopping or do your shopping for you, but with a scooter, you can get out and do it yourself still.

A scooter can be used to take you to the store. If you live in town or near the store, you can ride your scooter to the store, shop while riding the scooter and carry your goods home on your scooter. A scooter is a great method of giving those who are unable to walk or those who are unable to walk long distances the ability to be self-dependent.

While owning your own scooter, you dont have to disinfect a scooter in the store where you are shopping. Sometimes accidents and spills will happen in the retail setting leaving you with a scooter that may not be clean, sanitized. If you were to purchase your own scooter, you will feel more comfortable.

Using your own scooter also means you have the advantage of always having a scooter that is fully charged and ready to go. Often times those who are disabled will enter retail centers only to find the scooters are out of power, and are useless. To provide yourself the freedom of mobility with a fully charged scooter, bring along your own scooter and leave all the worries behind you.

Owning your own scooter gives you the choice of knowing and being familiar with the scooter you are riding. Riding a scooter you are not familiar can often times be a little awkward as you learn the controls. The retail scooters are big, bulky and will not cut corners very well. Using your own scooter is going to allow you the freedom to travel in the retail setting while still feeling comfortable. You make the personal seat adjustments to your scooter, adjust the handle bars and the controls to your personal liking, and the scooter settings will stay that way, because you are the only one who is using your scooter. Your personal scooter is just like your car, your personal transportation.

Poker, The Cheating Game? - Part I

Pokers advance from the casinos of New Orleans to the paddle wheelers plying the Mississippi River in the early years of the 19th century. created new opportunities for the professional gambler. These steamboats were lavishly appointed floating palaces catering to the well-heeled, replete with wine, women and song for the taking, and, oh yes, gambling. Many of the passengers on these cruises were Southern plantation owners flush with money thanks to the arrival of the railroads linking the cotton fields to the mighty river. These were men looking for a good time and willing to spend or lose their money in pursuit of pleasure.

At that time poker was a far different, and much simpler game then as played today. Only a twenty card deck (tens to aces), was used, and only four players at a table could participate, since the entire deck was dealt out, five cards to each player. Bets were placed and raised after the cards were dealt. The cards were then shown, and the best hand took the pot. This was an ideal game for card sharks since there was no draw and hands could easily be manipulated by various methods so that the card shark always left the game with the most winnings.

Among these various methods of cheating were sleight-of-hand tricks and even specially made mechanical devices often used by crooked gamblers, and most professional gamblers in those days were crooked. For example, Will and Finck developed a card-holding device called a sleeve card-holdout. This contraption strapped to the inside forearm of a gamblers sleeve, which was tailored in a wide cut to accommodate the device, had a metallic clip attached to a leather band that could clasp a needed card that a gambler could transfer unnoticed into his palm with a deft movement of the wrist.

Since these were not penny-ante games it was not uncommon for crooked gamblers to recruit one or more of the ships officers as accomplices, with a portion of the loot going to the officer or officers for their aid. These officers would often steer so-called marks or suckers, who were usually pleasantly drunk over to the gambler and would further aid the card shark by prearranged signals that revealed what cards had been dealt to the mark.

In fact, cheating at these games had become so notorious that by the 1840s a number of books were published as more or less exposes of the dangers of playing poker with professionals. About this time an American writer, Jonathan H. Green, wrote a particularly well received book on this subject called The Exposures of the Arts and Miseries of Gambling. In this book, Green referred to gambling as a cheating game. The game became more complex and more difficult for the card shark once the fifty-two card deck came into being, and new variations of poker were introduced.

Kenneth Bateman writes numerous articles on the subject of poker and its players. To read more player profiles, visit http://www.xlpoker.com.Hrishekesh Blog37761

How To Install and Setup WordPress Blog

In these days, blogging become more and more popular. Internet is full of different weblogs today. Some bloggers use services like Blogger.com. Those who want to have their blogs more under control are looking for quality blog script. In this article I will introduce probably the best PHP script for blogging. I will explain how to install it and how to setup this script to work properly.

Web hosting requirements for WordPress

Before you start the installation process, ensure that your web host offers PHP support and MySQL database. PHP version must be at least 4.1 or higher and MySQL version must be 3.23.23 or higher. If you are not sure which version your web hosting provider currently use, contact their help desk and ask them first.

How to install WordPress

You can download WordPress script from developers website for free (under GNU General Public License). Save the *.zip file on your hard disk and use software like WinZip or Total Commander to unpack these files to temporary folder. First, rename the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php. Then open this file in your favorite text editor (Notepad will do). Edit next variables -- the name of the MySQL database (create a new one using your web hosting control panel in case you had never created it before), your database username, password and MySQL database server (usually localhost). In the next step, upload all files to your web host. Point your browser to /wp-admin/install.php and follow the instructions on the screen. During the installation process the admin password will be generated. Note this password because you will need it in the next step.

Another and easier solution how to install this PHP script is to sign up for a quality web hosting service which offers pre-installed PHP scripts. Then easily go to your control panel, find the section with pre-installed scripts and select WordPress. The installer will do all the job for you. All you need to do is to choose the script you want to install.

How to setup WordPress

Now the script should be successfully installed. Point your browser to wp-login.php file in your WordPress folder and sign in with the username admin and the password generated during the installation. Your password can be changed from the Profile section at any time.

Fossil Collecting Disaster In Indiana

When fossil collecting, road cuts can hold many treasures for fossil hunters. But fossil hunters BEWARE! Those cuts hold something more: varmints that will hang on to your skin long after youve taken your fossil treasures home.

A Lesson Learned

Were new at this fossil hunting thing. Oh, we found our share of relics when we were kids and young adults, but as bona fide rock hounds, we are novices. We learned the varmint lesson the hard way this summer.

The Danger Sign

On a tip from a friend on a great place to find crinoids, we excitedly scrambled over a road cut in southern Indiana, paying no heed to the telltale signs that should have made us take care. In the excitement of fossil collecting, we ignored the water that was seeping from the cut...never thinking that the plants were anything more than a mild impediment to our rock hounding.

Something Found Us

By the next morning, our armpits and waists were dotted with quarter-inch red bumps. Surprisingly, the chiggers hadnt cared much for our ankles! My husband, who grew up in the west, had never experienced the intense itching of those little critters. Days after we arrived home and still itching, he scoured the internet for preventions and cures.

Oh, Now I Remember

I should have known better. I grew up in southern Ohio

666: The Number of the Beast

Even those who have never read the Bible will recognize it. Revered by the occult and feared by the superstitious, its a number forever linked with infamy. It is the number six hundred sixty-six. For over two millennia, this number has been used as a proxy for Satan himself. Its been the subject of endless speculation, hearsay, and confusion.

And during this time, its been used to justify the false identification of hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of individuals as the Antichrist. These false identifications have only served to confuse people as to the original Biblical meaning of the number 666, and unfortunately, they also cause many to dismiss bible prophecy as a mere superstition of crackpots and conspiracy theorists.

So where does the number 666 come from? And what does it mean?

All the speculation concerning 666 comes from a single verse in the Book of Revelation. In a passage describing the Antichrist and his world empire, we learn the following:

He required everyone great and small, rich and poor, slave and free to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead. And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name. Wisdom is needed to understand this. Let the one who has understanding solve the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666. Revelation 13:16-18 (NLT)

During the Great Tribulation, the Antichrist will require everyone on the earth to be given a mark on the right hand or the forehead. Those who refuse this mark will be unable to buy or sell anything, effectively cutting them off from all economic activity the purchase and sale of food, water, shelter, and the basic necessities of life.

This mark will have the following characteristics:

1) It will be the name of the beast
2) It will be the number representing his name
3) It will be the number of a man
and
4) The number is 666

Lets address each of these aspects individually in order to gain a firm grasp of their intended meaning:

The Name of the Beast

Who is the beast? Traditionally, the name of the beast is interpreted as being the name of the Antichrist, who is clearly referenced in verses 11-18 of Revelation Chapter 13 (this topic will be addressed in-depth in a later article). However, in these verses, the Antichrist is described as a second beast who exercises all the authority of the first beast. The first beast is described in verses 1-10 of the same chapter, but this beast does not represent the Antichrist as some believe, but rather the world empire the Antichrist will rule.

We know this because the first beast has seven heads and ten horns (verse 1), and this is a beast students of bible prophecy have seen before.

In the Book of Daniel, we are introduced to him as the fourth beast, a global empire that will destroy everything in its path:

Then he said to me, This fourth beast is the fourth world power that will rule the earth. It will be different from all the others. It will devour the whole world, trampling everything in its path. Its ten horns are ten kings that will rule that empire. Then another king will arise, different from the other ten, who will subdue three of them. He will defy the Most High and wear down the holy people of the Most High. Daniel 7:23-25 (NLT)

Does this fourth world power sound familiar? It has ten horns (Rev 13:1) and will trample everything in its path, probably prompting people to ask Is there anyone as great as the beast? Who is able to fight against him? (Rev 13:4). It will also devour the whole world, gaining authority over every tribe and people and language and nation (Rev 13:7)

We also learn that the Antichrist will require all the earth and those who belong to this world to worship the first beast, whose death wound had been healed (Rev 13:12). Who is this beast whose death wound has been healed? The wounded beast who will be resurrected is the fourth beast in Daniel 7 the world empire of ancient Rome, which was never completely destroyed like previous world empires. In the last days, the Roman Empire will appear once again, and the world will marvel at its appearance.

Daniel confirms this when he states that the Antichrist will be a ruler from the people who destroy the Temple in A.D. 70 (Daniel 9:26). The Romans destroyed the Temple, and they will have a ruler once again in the last days, confirming that the Roman Empire must once again exist.

The Book of Revelation also predicts this resurrection of Rome:

Five kings have already fallen, the sixth now reigns, and the seventh is yet to come, but his reign will be brief. Revelation 17:10 (NLT)

The angel reveals to John that 5 of the kingdoms have fallen:

1) Egypt
2) Assyria
3) Babylonia
4) Medo-Persia
5) Greece

The sixth kingdom now reigns:

6) Rome (Johns vision occurred in the 1st Century, when Rome still ruled the known world)

And the seventh is yet to come:

7) The Revived Roman Empire

In the last days, this resurrected Roman Empire will rule all of humanity. Its reign will be brief, but it will be like no other kingdom before it.

The Antichrist will require all the earth and those who belong to this world to worship the revived Roman Empire, a global government that will rule over every tribe and people and language and nation (Rev 13:7)

So the name of the beast described in Revelation 13:17 is not the name of the Antichrist as widely believed, but instead, it will be a name associated with the world empire he requires the world to worship.

The Number Representing His Name

If the mark of the beast is the name of the beast, how can it also be the number representing his name? Ancient Greek and Hebrew, the two languages most associated with the Book of Revelation, both used an alphanumeric system in which each letter of the alphabet correlates with a number. What verse 18 reveals is that the mark, which is the name of the beast, will have a numeric value that can be calculated as the number 666. The only way to calculate this number is if it appears as letters that need to be interpreted in a numerical form. Therefore, we can say with certainty that the mark of the beast will not be a literal brand of 666, but rather it will be a word or a phrase which when converted into its numerical equivalent will represent the number 666.

How this is properly calculated depends on whether or not John originally wrote the Book of Revelation in Greek or Hebrew. Tradition says he originally wrote the book in Greek. However, a strong case has been made that the book was originally written in Hebrew, then quickly translated into Greek. Not knowing for sure multiplies the difficulty of calculating the number of the beast, because each letter of the Greek and Hebrew alphabet is associated with a different numerical value.

The Number of a Man

If the number 666 represents the revived Roman Empire and not a man (the Antichrist) as traditionally believed, then why does verse 18 say, for it is the number of a man? The answer is that some translations interpret this verse as for it is the number of humanity. Either way, in both cases, the verse can be interpreted as mankind or the entirety of the human race. If this is the case, it tells us that the number 666 will not only be the name of the beast (the revived Roman Empire), but it will also be reflective of the entire human race, especially those who freely chose to accept it on their right hand or forehead.

When Daniel conveys Gods interpretation of Nebuchadnezzars dream, the empires of the world are symbolized in the form of a statue a statue of a man.

Your Majesty, in your vision you saw in front of you a huge and powerful statue of a man, shining brilliantly, frightening and awesome. Daniel 2:31 (NLT)

The association of this statue with mankind and world government provides a strong indication that the mark of the beast is more akin to the number of humanity, rather than any particular individual.

The Number is 666

>From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible associates certain numbers with an overall theme. The number six is often associated with mankind. For instance, man was created on the sixth day. Similarly, the number seven is often associated with perfection and rest. For instance, God rested on the seventh day.

In contrast to the number seven, six is viewed as highly symbolic of incompletion or imperfection. Just as man has fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), the number six is symbolic of mans shortfall of the perfection of Gods seven.

When the number six is repeated three times in the number 666, many believe its indicative of Satans attempt to imitate the trinity.

The Price of Accepting the Mark of the Beast

The Antichrist and his followers will pay a hefty price for accepting the mark of the beast. The Bible tells us that ALL who accept the mark of the beast will face eternal judgment for their decision. The following verses reveal the consequences of this rebellion against God:

Then a third angel followed them, shouting, Anyone who worships the beast and his statue or who accepts his mark on the forehead or the hand must drink the wine of Gods wrath. It is poured out undiluted into Gods cup of wrath. And they will be tormented with fire and burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the Lamb. The smoke of their torment rises forever and ever, and they will have no relief day or night, for they have worshiped the beast and his statue and have accepted the mark of his name. Revelation 14:9-11 (NLT)

So the first angel left the Temple and poured out his bowl over the earth, and horrible, malignant sores broke out on everyone who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Revelation 16:2 (NLT)

And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Revelation 19:20 (NLT)

Acceptance of the mark is not a matter to be taken lightly. Anyone who accepts the mark denies Christ in favor of a false god. This decision, once made, is irrevocable, and the consequences are everlasting.

However, for those who refuse the mark, a future of eternal bliss awaits. Although they will suffer persecution to the point of death, their steadfast faithfulness in honor of Jesus Christ, will open the door to an eternity in the presence of God.

Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus, for proclaiming the word of God. And I saw the souls of those who had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their forehead or their hands. Revelation 20:4 (NLT)

These verses are clear. Under no circumstances should anyone, especially a believer in Christ, accept the mark of the beast. To do so, leads only to ruin.

Superstition Surrounding the Number 666

The world is filled with superstition, especially when it comes to numbers. Some feel the number 13 is unlucky, and they avoid anything associated with the number. For a lot of people, the number 666 has the same effect. But God makes it clear that we are not to fear this number. Having a license plate, a sales receipt, or a street address will the number 666 is nothing to be concerned about. Anyone who thinks so it attributing supernatural power to a number, and the Bible clearly states that believers should fear God, and God only:

Do not fear anything except the Lord Almighty. He alone is the Holy One. If you fear him, you need fear nothing else. Isaiah 8:13 (NLT)

Jesus underscores this command while teaching his disciples not to fear persecution:

Dont be afraid of those who want to kill you. They can only kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28 (NLT)

The things of this world are fleeting, but the Lord Almighty, and He only, will determine our eternal destiny. Therefore, dont be concerned with such trivial superstitions as the random occurrence of the number 666.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the true meaning of the number 666 will not become apparent until the Great Tribulation, when the Antichrist forces the world population to accept the number as a mark on the right hand or on the forehead. Contemporary attempts to calculate this number ahead of time as either the name of a person, human beings, or the revived Roman Empire, will only lead to frustration. Even worse, these attempts may end up having a negative impact in that, once proved false, they will damage the credibility of those who teach end times bible prophecy in general. If the devil can convince the world that bible prophecy is the exclusive domain of crackpots and conspiracy theorists, then he can snatch away a valuable tool for spreading the Gospel of Christ.

In the end, it is the duty of our generation to carefully examine the meaning of Revelation 13:16-18 and convey an accurate historical interpretation of these verses for others. If we succeed, the end times generation will have the ability to properly interpret the number of the beast. Because once the Antichrist arrives on the world scene and announces his intention to require the mark, it will become clear to everyone on earth what acceptance of this number really means. Whether the number of an individual, a kingdom, or mankind itself, acceptance of the number 666 will be tantamount to a public rejection of Jesus Christ.

Gift Cards: The Advantages and Disadvantages

Everyone loves receiving and giving gift cards for special occasions. They reduce the stress of worrying if the recipient will like those jeans or shirt you bought them. They eliminate the fake smile and the "I can always use a new pair of jeans" routine from the person getting the gift. However, beware of the risks and hidden cost while using your gift card.

Consumer Advantages

Every year, gift cards are increasing in popularity. Generally, there are three different cards: store-specific gift cards, restaurant gift cards and general-purpose gift cards. Store-specific gift cards are meant to be used at the particular store and usually come with less hidden fees. Some stores like Old Navy and Banana Republic have became partners and allow their customers to use the gift card at either store. Restaurant gift cards are very similar to store-specific gift cards. They allow you to go and enjoy a nice dinner as a gift. Just make sure you tip the server the same percentage as you would if you were paying the total bill. General-purpose gift cards give the consumer a broader range on where to use the card. These types of cards are typically Visa, MasterCard or American Express and can be used anywhere those major credit cards are accepted. The flexibility is the main benefit of using the general-purpose card. You can fill up your gas tank, go out to eat, buy concert tickets or what ever else you want to do with it.

Consumer Disadvantages

Many general purpose cards come loaded with fees. According to The Lowdown on Gift Cards article on Bankrate.com, some gift-card programs will issue you another card if your card expires. These replacement cards will cost you from $5.95 to $10. If you order the card online or by phone you will be charged a $4.95 to $8.95 shipping and handling fee and a $3.95 to $11.95 service fee. Some gift cards will charge you a monthly maintenance fee if you still have a balance on your card after six months or a year. If you still have a balance after this period of time, a $2 to $3 monthly fee kicks in.

If your gift card is lost or stolen, good luck! Some retailers will not replace a missing gift card. Other retailers such as Macy's and Bloomingdales are more easygoing and will issue you a new card if you can provide a receipt showing your most recent purchase. Some general-purpose cards will cancel the missing card and will re-issue a new one for a $5.95 to $10 fee.

So make sure you keep your card in a safe place, use it before it expires and buy it directly from the merchandiser and you will avoid most of these fees.

Retailers

According to the Retailers Just Love Them article on CBC News Online, the sales of gift cards have exploded from $1 billion in 1995 to an expected $70 billion in 2006 in the United States. As of 2004, 68 percent of all major retailers offer some sort of a gift card. The number is probably even greater now that it is 2006. Coffee giant, Starbucks, has estimated that 10 percent of all their sales come from gift cards.

Another reason retailers love gift cards is consumers will pay less attention to sales and they tend to spend more than what they have on the card. Retailers notice that consumers will spend the whole amount on the card and have a small balance of $2 or $3 left on it. Chances are, shoppers will never use the card again and this works to the retailer's advantage.

One more advantage to retailers is instead of having just the holiday rush and then being prepared for holiday returns, they actually get a double rush. Since consumers give gift cards as holiday presents, the gift card holder will usually rush straight to the mall after the holidays to spend their cards. This results in a major cut-down in returned merchandise.

There are a few disadvantages for retailers. Gift cards can cost the retailer for 50 cents to $3 per card, depending on how many are ordered. There are also implementation costs of up to $50,000. Implementation costs cover all start up fees related to producing and tracking of gift cards.

Gift Card Exchanging

Recently, Internet businesses have created web sites allowing people to sell or swap unwanted gift cards. EBay got involved in this idea and now has more than 7,500 gift cards listed for sale or auction. This can be a good idea if you receive a gift card to a particular store and you do not like anything in that store. You can exchange these cards on these sites for other cards or even cash. Sites such as SwapAGift.com and CardAvenue.com are good sites that offer this service. On CardAvenue.com, you can even buy gift cards at a discounted rate. For example, you may be able to buy a $25 Office Depot card for $17; that is another way of saving.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Payday Loans

Payday loans are intended to bind borrowers over until the following paycheck reaches its destination. The weakness of cash advances includes expensive fees that make the APR (annual percentage rates) high enough to send you bankruptcy. The advances are distributed after the borrower signs an agreement accepting the stipulations that he will repay the fees and loan amount on a set date.

If you are planning a cash advance, you should consider all details of the loan and weigh out the pros and cons carefully. The payday loans are slightly different from other types of loans it is short-term loan of unsecured nature.

After a person is accepted for a payday loan, the borrower writes a voided check to the vendor. The check includes the fee and the loan amount. The lender will often charge a percentage of the value borrowed, which in some instances stretches up to 900 percent annually.

Accordingly, if you borrow $200, you will pay back $240. The advance is then rolled over with the date due two weeks after the loan is issued. If the borrower does not have the loan amount upon the end of term agreement, he pays the advance fee and rolls the loan over to the following paycheck.

Payday loans are planned to help those wishing to dodge disconnections of utilities. Reconnection fees are around $50 depending on the state. Car repairs often lead people to payday loans. Most people depend on the vehicle to transport them to and from work. Additional urgent situations including medical expenditures can lead to bad credit. If you do not pay medical bills on time or put the bills off, the provider may send your information to the credit bureaus, which diminishes your credit.

The majority of payday lenders include requirements, which you must meet in order to receive a loan. It often entails employment, checking account, etc. and you will need proof of each detail.

The majority of lenders might decline payday loans if the borrower filed bankruptcy in the preceding year, or filed multiple bankruptcies over a course of time. If you do not have a job, the lender can rightfully deny you a loan, since no evidence of income is available to repay the loan.

Most lenders expect you to make $1000 monthly in net income to apply for a loan. If you worked less than five months on a job, the lender may deny your application.
